WOMAN POLICE OFFICER CELEBRATES 39 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE

 

A long-serving woman police officer, Agnesmary Amojong, has officially retired after an impressive 39 years in the disciplined forces.

Agnesmary, who hails from Kocholia in Teso North Sub-County, joined the service as a Police Constable and steadily rose through the ranks to become the Commissioner of Police and retired as County Police Commander, Nyamira at the age of 60.

Agnesmary becomes the first police lady from the Iteso community to attain the rank of Commissioner of Police. All pioneer officers from the community retired as police constables.

Amojong started her record-breaking feat in 1987 during the passing out parade at Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri County when she emerged the best all- round in her squad before President Daniel Arap Moi.

Agnesmary’s star began to rise, and seven years after joining the National Police Service, she earned promotion to the rank of Corporal.

Her determination and hard work earned her subsequent promotions to ranks of Sergeant, Inspector, Chief Inspector of Police, Assistant Superintedent of Police, Superintedent of Police and Commissioner of Police.

Agnesmary started her checkered career in the disciplined forces with her first posting to Raliways Nakuru. She was later posted to Eldoret Railway Police and later Kisumu Railways.

She returned to Eldoret Railway Police and later to Meru Division, Police Headquarters, after she earned promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector of Police.

In 2012, Amojong undertook Higher
training course at Kiganjo Training College.Upon graduation, she was promoted to the rank of Deputy Officer Commanding Police Division( now Deputy Sub County Commander).

That magnificent feat saw her transferred to Mbooni East as Sub County Police Commander where she discharged her duties for four years.

Agnesmary returned to Police headquarters and later to Kericho as Deputy County Commander Kericho in 2022. In 2023, she was posted to Nyamira as County Police Commander until 3 days ago when she proceeded on terminal leave.

2. To have completed and retired with no displinary record.

Asked who motivated her to join the National Police Service, Amojong cited her father Simon Odeke, her uncle Francis Ichami, and aunt Naoimi Ichami.

The retired County Police Commander said during her tenure as senior police officer, she encountered numerous challenges due to the scarcity of staff attributed to sickness and high alcohol intake.

On her plans after retirement, Amojong said she had retired peacefully and now wants to focus her energy to serve God in full and humanity.

On integrity, Agnesmary urged Police officers to learn to fear God from their heart and to learn to work without supervision.

Agnesmary said the reforms in the police service she considered most impactful were the decision to give officer commanding stations vehicles.

Whether she encountered any barriers or not during her tenure, Amojong said they were meagre, especially when you are expecting and when you are dependable in sports or First Aid.

Colleagues have praised her as an officer with an enduring legacy of dedication, professionalism, service, and excellence throughout her career.
