Preparations for Barasa,Savula swearing in complete, ceremony to cost Sh8million

Sh8 million to be used in swearing in of the second Governor of Kakamega County Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula

Preparations for the swearing in of the second Governor of Kakamega County Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula tomorrow is ongoing at Bukhungu stadium as more than five thousand Kakamega county residents are expected to attend.

Fernandes Barasa who garnered 192 929 votes against his close opponent Cleophas Malala who garnered 159 508 votes will be taking over from Wycliffe Oparanya who was the 1st Governor of Kakamega county.    

According to the County Secretary  James Ochami who is also the head of the committee that is planning for the event said that an estimated 8 million will be used in that ceremony.

“We are preparing for this event that will take place as from 10am to 2pm and we are expecting representatives from 12 sub counties to attend the swearing in.” said Ochami

Speaking on behalf of the County Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Ndaiya Ngalia said that he’ll` ensure security will be paramount during the ceremony,

“I will ensure security is provided at the stadium and at the reception and the attire county. We are all those who will attend the event early since there will be tight security at the entrance to be sure of safety for everyone.’ Ndaiya said    

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony which has been estimated to cost Ksh.8 million.

In the just concluded gubernatorial elections, Fernandez Barasa of ODM emerged the first one with a total of 192,929 votes followed by his closest rival Cleophas Malala of ANC who gannered 159,508 votes.

The governor’s sit had attracted 7 candidates among them is Cyrus Jirongo of UDP who got 5,974 votes, Suleiman Sumba of Kanu with 1078 votes, Samuel Omukoko of MDP with 761 votes followed by two independent candidates; Michael Sakwa and Austine Otieno who garnered 1,146 and 150 votes respectively.

Barasa will succeed Oparanya to become the second governor of Kakamega county.
