Five people have died and three others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident at Makotelo area along the Webuye–Malaba highway.
According to local residents led by Joshi Mwihogo, the accident occurred at around midnight and involved a matatu and a trailer that was heading towards Webuye from Kanduyi.
Residents have called on the relevant authorities to install speed bumps along the stretch, citing the increasing number of accidents in the area. They also appealed to police to release four youths who were arrested that night over allegations of attempting to loot property from the overturned trailer.
Bungoma South OCPD William Letting confirmed that the deceased were three men and two women. He further stated that four youths were arrested on suspicion of attempting to steal goods from the trailer after the accident.
