An Administration Police officer attached to the Nairobi Museum and his cousin were killed on Wednesday evening in a tragic motorcycle accident at Malaba Stage near the Eldoret Shuttle terminus.

The deceased were Corporal Evans Ekisa, who was riding the motorcycle, and farmer Patrick Oriama, who was among two pillion passengers on the motorcycle.

Teso North Sub-County Police Commander Charles Chepkong’a said the accident occurred at about 8:50 p.m. as Corporal Ekisa was riding towards Bungoma.

According to Chepkong’a, another motorcycle allegedly hit Ekisa’s motorcycle from the rear, throwing the rider and his passengers off balance.

They were subsequently run over by the rear tyres of an oncoming long-distance trailer destined for Uganda. He added that the motorcycle rider surrendered to Malaba Police Station. His motorcycle was also impounded and detained at the station as investigations get underway.

“Police officers who arrived at the scene moved the bodies to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, while the injured pillion passenger was taken to the same facility for treatment,” Chepkong’a said.

The deceased paternal uncle Celestine Oriama said Evans’s motorcycle allegedly hit Ekisa’s motorcycle from the rear, throwing it off balance.

Kocholia Sub-County Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Evans Kiplagat Sumbeiywo said Corporal Ekisa’s body was transferred on Thursday to Delight Funeral Home in Bungoma following a report from the Malaba Traffic Unit.

He said a postmortem examination would be conducted at the Bungoma facility.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Cpl Ekisa was the son to retired Assistant Education Officer Erineo Ekisa.
