A Non-governmental organization in Bungoma County has embarked on a five day sensitization programme to prevent Ebola Viral Disease.
FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY KENYA is funding Community development and Sustainability (CDS) and the County Government of Bungoma department of Health and sanitation to implement Ebola Viral disease preparedness and response.
Speaking during the launching of Information and Communication (IC) material for Ebola at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, Emmanuel Were, the CDS director programmes stated that Ebola is a killer disease and it needs a joint effort in combating it.
“We are working in Webuye West, Kanduyi and Sirisia Sub Counties to help in combating Ebola Viral disease, these are the areas which are considered hotspots for experiencing heavy long distance trucks which criss cross East African countries,” he said.
Were also stated that they will be pitching camp in Lwakhakha border point sensitizing and screening travellers to avert the spread of Ebola.
At the same time CDH Dr Caleb Watta lauded the partner for their effort in working with the department of health as part of a broader campaign targeting porous and high risk border areas which was prompted by recent Ebola cases identified in Uganda and Congo.
“As a department we are very greatiful to CDS for joining us in fighting Ebola, their efforts shows that jointly we will be able to combat the killer disease,” said Watta.
Present were Health Promotion Coordinator Perita Barasa, County Disease Surveillance Coordinator John Papai and CDS officer Bramwel Wamasebu among others.
