Mt. Elgon Elders And Leaders Sound Alarm Over Rising Division, Call for Peace and Unity

By Nelvin Juma

Elders from the Bukusu, Iteso and Sabaot communities together with religious leaders from the Mt. Elgon region have called on Kenyans, political leaders and churches to take responsibility in promoting peace and unity across the country.

Speaking during a peace meeting held in Mt. Elgon, the leaders said continuous dialogue and cooperation among communities are key in ensuring harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Mt. Elgon movement chairman Bernard Barasa, alongside religious leader Badilmali Kapchanga and Wycliffe Kipsanit, emphasized the importance of regular discussions aimed at fostering understanding and reconciliation among communities.

The leaders also urged residents to uphold their community values and constitutions while avoiding divisive politics, especially as some communities prepare for the circumcision season.

They further encouraged young people to focus on education, development and unity in order to build a peaceful and progressive Mt. Elgon region and the nation at large.
