Ruto Directs Employers To Effect 6% Minimum Wage Increment He Announced In 2024

By Reuben Olita

President William Ruto has directed employers to implement the 6% wage increment he announced during last year’s Labour Day celebrations.

Addressing workers during the 60th Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi President Ruto told CS for Labour and Social Protection, Dr Alfred Mutua to have it implemented together with Head of Public Service.

Dr. Ruto had good news to those earning pensions and gratuity that from now henceforth will be exempted from taxation.

” I am happy that when my government took over the reigns of power in 2022, Kenya was the 8th largest economy in Africa, but it’s now the 6th largest after overtaking Angola and Ethiopia,” and attributed to efforts by workers and economic stability through subsidized seeds and fertilizer.

Ruto said no taxpayers’ funds will be used for infrastructural development, noting that the proposed Rironi- Malaba Road and the SGR from Naivasha- Malaba, will be through investment.

The President said he was in agreement with COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli that employers can use their payslips to access affordable housing.

Atwoli, while calling on Kenyans to exercise utmost patriotism, urged the government to regulate social media to emulate countries like China, Dubai, UK, and the US, noting that Kenya is free for all.
