Bungoma Civil Society Organizations Condemn Youth Attack In Sirisia

By Ezekiel Odeoh

We, the undersigned Civil Society Organizations, are deeply concerned and outraged by the violent attack on two young citizens yesterday, allegedly perpetrated by individuals affiliated with one of the political leaders in Sirisia Constituency. The two youths sustained critical injuries and are currently hospitalized.

We unequivocally condemn this act of violence. Such actions are a grave affront to democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law. Political competition must never be a license for violence, intimidation, or the violation of fundamental freedoms.

We call upon all political leaders, without exception, to demonstrate restraint, uphold the dignity of leadership, and foster a political culture based on tolerance, dialogue, and respect for divergent views. Leaders must lead by example — promoting peace rather than fueling violence.

We also issue a strong appeal to the youth: refuse to be used as instruments of political violence. Your energy, talents, and aspirations must be safeguarded and channelled towards building a just, peaceful, and prosperous society. Violence only serves to undermine your future.

As CSOs, we stand in solidarity with the victims and their families, and we call upon the relevant authorities to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served. Violence must never be normalized in our communities.

We reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding human rights, promoting peaceful coexistence, and holding all leaders accountable to the highest standards of public service.
