The Ministry of Education on 10th April, 2024 through the Minister came out to outline some issues that have left the country wondering on how things are run in this country.
This was a reaction on the ‘controversial” play by The Butere Girls school titled “Echoes of War”.
The Ministry asserted that the script had been altered from what was earlier on presented. Our findings are that this was All a lie, and what a shame!!
This is a clear indicator of what our nation has as administrators; people poised to protect the status quo by all means even lies.
At The Giant St.Mary’s Mumias Girls high school, things are not rossy and cossy at all.
Let us introspect at the case in question in particular St.Marys Mumias school, which to date so much has been said yet nothing has taken place to salvage the situation hitherto.
1. Handling of Students by Non professionals and persons of questionable characters.
It was reported and noted that on two occasions, people claiming to be prophets were welcomed at school by the head ostensibly to root out the evils spirits which have possessed the students.
They performed miracles in styles that are questionable and left most of the students worried and terrified.
Some of them developed complications from these acts. This was reported, yet this has been kept under key and lock.
The Ministry of Education and some officers visited the school from the reports we have yet nothing substantive has been done.
How about the Kakamega Catholic Church? What is taking place under their watch is just appalling.
In the same school, there is a choreographed methodology of using non professionals to control school programs. A particular case in question is one Mr.Vidambu.
This young man of questionable character hops from one school to another with some funny programs and makes belief about funny workable revision programs that he himself has never used:
Vidambu is not an Educationist and has never handled a class from the information on our desk. Unless he’s being used for something else, we find it funny that the MoE gives direction on handling Co.Curricular activities and yet let people like Vidambu decide through people like Buchichi how schools run.
How do such principals operationalize schools like they never merited in the first place. We would expect a principal of her stature through the teachers under her to develop Academic Programs that run the Academic affairs of our daughters not relying on persons of questionable integrity.
If politicians are banned so should this social character.
What is obvious is that upon things getting out of hand, the MoE will come out blazing and making statements yet they have Policies that themselves are compromising.
Right from the Sub county to the top, can something be done concerning this institution which we are proud of as Stakeholders before it goes to the dogs?
Other areas we need look into include but not limited to:
2. Finances( thorough audit)
3. Procurement Processes
4. Administrative Priorities
5. The Canal Knowledge Issues reported at the institutions. Are teachers sleeping with students as it has been reported.
These are ticking time-bomb issues that need to be handled and obviously this unfit Monica Buchichi need to be gone like before yesterday.
