Kakamega County leaders led by Governor Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula have sent their condolence messages to the family of Kakamega county assembly member who passed on while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu on 27th October 2022.
Phaustine Werimo who was a two termed nominated member of county assembly faced her untimely death in Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu undergoing minor surgery in her leg due to blood clot related condition.
Werimo was a member of Orange Democratic Party and also a human rights champion with skills in development of legislation and policies to protect children, women and the vulnerable in the society.
Barasa mentioned Werimo as the most hardworking and dedicated Member of the county assembly who was always at the forefront in matters related to gender.
“Death has ripped off the county a Human Rights Champion and an ardent supporter and defender of the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) who worked tirelessly to deliver victory on ODM candidates in just concluded elections. “ Said Barasa
Ayub Savula in his message of condolence mentioned Werimo as someone who has served in several public service roles in ODM party, county assembly and the people she represented here in Kakamega County.
“Late Hon. Phaustine has over the years served our county in different capacities that she was representing in the county. As a county we have lost the most hardworking member of the county assembly.” Said Savula
Speaker of county assembly James Namatsi mentioned Werimo as the most dedicated and dependable member who has rendered her commitment to serve mankind without distinction.
“Werimo has served in several leadership positions and many committees including the budget and appropriation at the assembly and other capacities.” Said Namatsi
