Lurambi MP Bishop Titus Khamala has said that he paid fee for one of the twins involved in the story of identical twins from Kakamega who hit the headlines two years ago could be far from over but ran away from school.
Khamala’s sentiments comes barely a day after the media reported that the identical twins who are supposed to sit for the year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are at home due to lack of schools, it has emerged one of the girls left school fees at her previous school and declined to sit for her KCSE exams.
“After it was found out that Sharon and Melon were twins and found their mother, they met some people including political leaders who promised them heaven, they changed from being students to celebrities and left school. Sharon left a full scholarship of over Sh40, 000 at Shikoti Girls and therefore she should not blame anybody for not finishing school in 2019,” said Khamala.
“We were paying school fees for Sharon Mathias right from Form Three at St. Mary Goretti Shikoti Girls’ High School and that year when their story emerged, the Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) had paid her Form Four tuition fee,” said Lurambi MP Titus Khamala.
According to Bishop Khamala, the identical twins problems are self-inflicted since they were misadvised to change schools with no surety that those who were promising them heaven will foot their bills.
“After it was found out that Sharon and Melon were twins and found their mother, they met some people including political leaders who promised them heaven, they changed from being students to celebrities and left school. Sharon left a full scholarship of over Sh40, 000 at Shikoti Girls and therefore she should not blame anybody for not finishing school in 2019,” said Khamala.
He added: “Infact she should be should surcharged for benefiting from a constituency where she doesn’t belong to and left money in school. If she will have finished school, we will be talking of how to admit her to the university,”
St. Mary Goretti Shikoti Girls’ High School Principal Milcah Misoi corroborated the MP’s sentiments and confirmed that indeed the NG-CDF had paid for her school fees for the whole year.
“The MP had paid her tuition fee in form three and she studied well and then went to form four, all the tuition fee was also paid by the MP. By the time there story of being identical twins started, she was a candidate. When the DNA results were out, we expected her back to school but she told us she was not prepared to sit for the 2019 KCSE,” said Ms. Misoi.

She added: “We tried convincing the girl that she still had enough time to prepare for the exams but her (Sharon) together with her parents declined to heed to our advice and told us that they had sponsors who will take care of her education and that she was going back to form three and to a better school,” .
The principal regretted that the well-wishers who had promised the girls to sponsor their education had abandoned them at the hour of need, saying they should honour their pledges and support the girls to sit for this year’s KCSE exams.
Earlier, Rosemary Onyango the mother to the twins told The Standard that the twins are at home and that she owes the three schools a total of Sh173, 000 in fee arrears.
“I have not paid rent for the last 10 months which amounts to Sh90, 000 and with my 10 kids; I don’t know where I will take them in case the landlord will evict us. I have taken loans to cater for their fees and now auctioneers are on my neck,” said Ms. Onyango.
Ms. Onyango is supposed to pay Sh81, 000 for Sharon who moved from Shikoti Girls to Butere Girls, Sh56, 000 for Melvis who moved from AIC Kimoson to Bishop Njenga Girls and Sh36, 000 for Melon who was moved from Kongoni Day School to Bishop Sulumeti Girls.

She added: “Before being duped by the well-wishers to take my kids to big schools, I could comfortably pay for their school fees and now am unable. My life was better and I wish things had remained the same.
At the same time, Ms. Onyango is threatening to sue the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital if they fail to publicly apologise to the family and compensate them.
