Two people in Lurambi, Kakamega County have succumbed to death after a tractor they were boarding lost direction and plunged into a river.
The driver died on spot while his conductor died shortly after he was rushed to Kakamega general hospital.
Three others escaped with injuries and are recuperating at the hospital.
David Kabena, Kakamega central police commander confirmed the incident urging people to be cautious while boarding a tractor.
“A tractor is not a passenger car; anyone riding on a tractor should observe extra caution.” He said.
According to eyewitnesses, the tractor was transporting timber from Eshisiru to Mabanga before it lost direction and plunged into the river.
“It was carrying five people, two have died and three others have been rushed to Kakamega referral hospital,” said one of the eye witnesses.
The driver was confirmed dead on the spot after the tractor fell on him.
The accident was linked to the existence of potholes on the bridge as well as the paved roads in the area.
However, residents called on their leaders including area Mp and ward representative to intervene and come up with a lasting solution.
“It’s not the first time we’re witnessing an accident in this area, after every two months an accident happens here,”
“We want our leaders to look for possible solutions over this bridge as soon as possible, added another resident.”
The bridge has claimed lives of more than five people over the last two years.
