Oparanya’s wife receives donation from Kenya Red Cross in support of menstrual health programme

Kakamega County First Lady Priscillah Oparanya has received a donation of sanitary towels, inner wears for girls & underpants for boys as well as washing soap from the Kenya Red Cross, Nairobi.

The donation will be directed towards supporting the Menstrual Health Management Programme for vulnerable young school going girls (and boys) in Kakamega County. The programme, an initiative by County First Ladies Association, seeks to keep the girls and boys in school by improving their access to the basic but very essential hygiene materials.

“We want to end the trauma caused by lack of these essentials by our young children, sometimes leading to drop out from school,” Mrs. Oparanya said after receiving the donation in her office, Kakamega.

To keep the initiative alive, the first lady who is also a maternal health champion in Kakamega County has so far partnered with Lapfund Trust, Huru International and the Kenya Red Cross since the programme started in the year 2018, giving hope to hundreds of needy young boys and girls.

“I also call on other interested well-wishers willing to support us to welcome aboard so that we can improve the self-esteem of our children and keep them in school,” she added.

Today’s contribution will target two public schools and one other school for the mentally and physically challenged children.

The Kenya Red Cross team was led by madam Lilian Matimu from KRCS Headquarters, Nairobi and madam Euphrasia Musundi the organisation’s representative in Kakamega.
