Chakol South Ward Produces Two Teams in Kenya’s Division One League

Chakol South Ward has made Busia County proud after producing two football teams that will feature in Kenya’s FKF Division One League, the country’s third-tier football competition.

For years, Chakol Queens has been the ward’s sole representative in the women’s FKF Division One League. The latest addition is Obucuun Border FC, which recently secured promotion after an impressive 2025/2026 FKF National Division Two campaign.

Competing in the Western Zone A Pool B, Obucuun Border FC finished top of the table with 47 points from 21 matches, registering 14 wins, five draws and two defeats, with a +21 goal difference.

After winning their group, Obucuun Border FC faced the champions from the other group in a two-legged promotion playoff, where they successfully earned a place in the FKF Division One League for the 2026/2027 season.

Chakol South Member of the County Assembly Denzel Edung’lot Musumba hailed the achievement, saying it demonstrates the ward’s strength in nurturing football talent.
“Perhaps we are also leading the county with two teams featuring in the third-tier league, confirming that we lead in talent nurturing,” Musumba said.

Meanwhile, Chakol Queens and Obucuun Border FC will represent Kenya at the Ateker Cup of Nations football tournament, which will be held in Uganda from August 15, 2026.

The regional tournament will bring together teams from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia, with Kenya’s representatives drawn from Busia County and Turkana.

The competition is expected to strengthen sporting ties among communities within the Ateker region while providing a platform for showcasing emerging football talent.
