Cherangโ€™any MP Calls for Timely Opening of NCPB Stores

By Mercy Buyanzi -Trans Nzoia County
Cherangโ€™any Member of Parliament, Patrick Simiyu, has urged the government to ensure the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) stores are opened on time to support local farmers as they continue with the maize harvest.
Speaking during the launch ofย  bus distribution initiative to schools,Simiyuย  stressed that agriculture remains the primary source of income for many residents in the region.
He called on the government to purchase maize from farmers at favorable prices, noting that many families depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.
โ€œThe timely opening of NCPB stores is critical for our farmers,โ€ Simiyu said. โ€œThe government must also ensure that maize is bought at fair prices to protect the interests of our farmers.โ€
Simiyu also opposed the proposed removal of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), which has been a key resource for local development.
The MP highlighted that the fund has contributed to the construction of schools and the payment of studentsโ€™ fees, benefiting many families in his constituency.
โ€œThe NG-CDF has supported critical infrastructure and education projects in Cherangโ€™any. Removing this fund would disrupt development and hinder the educational progress of many students,โ€ Simiyu said.
The MPโ€™s comments come as farmers in the region face challenges in securing markets for their maize.
Simiyuโ€™s call for government intervention highlights the ongoing struggle for fair agricultural policies that benefit local communities.
