Westlands Mp Meets Bungoma MPs, MCAs For His 2027 Gubernatorial Bid

DUNCAN WASWA – BUNGOMA COUNTY.

The political landscape in Bungoma County is rapidly shifting as nine Members of Parliament and 58 Members of the County Assembly have jointly endorsed Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

The announcement was made during a high-profile consultative meeting held at Wanangali Sports Club in Kanduyi, Bungoma, bringing together leaders and opinion shapers from across the county. The forum saw leaders unite across party lines in support of Tim Wanyonyi’s bid, emphasizing a need to prioritize leadership capacity over party affiliations in the next elections.

Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, speaking on behalf of the delegation, stated that this time around, Bungoma residents will vote based on performance, vision, and integrity, not political party loyalty.

“We, as leaders from Bungoma, have agreed to rally behind Hon. Tim Wanyonyi because of his proven development record. Come 2027, we want a governor who can work and deliver, not just one who represents a party. Bungoma deserves better,” said Wanyama.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Majority Leader in the Bungoma County Assembly, Joseph Nyongesa, praised Tim Wanyonyi for his leadership style, which he described as inclusive, people-driven, and non-partisan.

“Tim Wanyonyi has consistently shown political maturity. He engages all leaders regardless of political affiliation and has demonstrated a true spirit of servant leadership. That is the kind of leadership we need in Bungoma to unlock our county’s full potential,” Nyongesa remarked.

The endorsement event marks a significant political turning point, indicating a shift towards merit-based leadership as the 2027 elections approach.

In his speech, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi welcomed the endorsement with humility and clarity, affirming that he is ready to serve the people of Bungoma as their governor. He emphasized that his candidacy is about service, not party politics.

“I come to you as Tim Wanyonyi — a leader with a track record, not just as a member of ODM or as someone’s brother. I have worked hard in Westlands, and now I am ready to bring that same vision, energy, and transformation to Bungoma,” he said.

He further called on those who view him only through the lens of being the brother to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to judge him instead by his leadership record. Wanyonyi stated that he is already building a competent, inclusive taskforce to help him achieve his goals should he become governor.

“Leadership is about work, not lineage. My work in Westlands speaks for itself — from upgrading infrastructure to improving healthcare, education, and livelihoods. Bungoma deserves that same kind of focused, transparent leadership,” Wanyonyi said.

Wanyonyi’s entry into the Bungoma gubernatorial race now sets the stage for what is expected to be a high-stakes battle. He is likely to face strong opponents, including Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and businessman Zacharia Barasa, among others.

However, with a unified front of elected and grassroots leaders rallying behind him, Wanyonyi appears to have gained an early advantage, especially among voters who are increasingly frustrated by party politics and are seeking real transformation.

The endorsement also signaled the launch of a countywide campaign under the slogan #SiMimiNiSisi — meaning “It’s not about me, it’s about us” — aimed at mobilizing communities around shared values and inclusive development.

As Bungoma braces for 2027, the message from this meeting was loud and clear: the tide is turning, and voters are ready for leadership that delivers.
