The Anglican Church of Kenya St Thomas Amagoro Church is mourning the sudden death of its Mothers Union member Jane Mukade, who collapsed and died during a Sunday morning church service.
The Vicar General Isabella Inyele Imoh, while breaking the sad news, said Mukade had finished one part of the service and thanksgiving, which she presided over when they noticed that there was a commotion outside the church.
โI did ask the evangelist and Rev. Muzungu ( Peter) to go out and say a word of prayer because I was informed someone was very sick,โ she said.
The Mothers Union member had been moved to the compound of the Vicar General. When the team she had sent arrived, they noticed something was amiss. She was not breathing, so they acted first by rushing her Kocholia Sub County Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mukade was ferried to church for the service by a boda boda where she sat outside the church due to limited space inside the church, which certainly needs expansion.
Isabella said they knew her story. She had an enlarged heart, adding that she visited her two weeks ago for prayers where she admitted that her body was not well.
She urged Christians to check their health status on non communicable diseases such as blood pressure and sugar levels.
Mr Vincent Ochieng Odhiambo said he was saddened by the death in the service of the Lord, urging people to visit medical facilities to ascertain their medical status.
โCardiac arrerst is one of the leading killer diseases in life today, thus the need to visit clinics to get medical status reports,โ he said, noting that many people fail to know their status because of poverty.
He urged devolved units to ensure funds are factored in the budget to provide free medical care in line with the 2010 constitution.
Mr Fredrick Orodi said he believes Mama Mukade, who died during church service, is a true Christian who will go to heaven.
Jane Mukande, in her early 80s, was the mother to late the former Busia County Health Adminstrator at the Busia County Referral Hospital, the late Bonface Odikor Ijaa.
