Cities, Municipal Boards Play Critical Role In Kenya’s Urban transformation And Service Delivery -Buteyo

Cities, Municipal Boards Play Critical Role In Kenya’s Urban transformation And Service Delivery.

Speaking in Nairobi when he met The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) -Council of Governors (CoG) Mary Mwiti on Tuesday, Buteyo stated that Cities and Municipalities play a critical role urban transformation and service delivery.
He spoke when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) -Council of Governors (CoG) Mary Mwiti met with the leadership of the chairpersons of Cities and Municipal Boards.
The Chairman of the Caucus of Chairpersons of Cities and Municipalities in the Country Wanyonyi Buteyo who is  also the Chairman of Kimilili Municipality, in Bungoma was present.
During the meeting in Nairobi, various issues were discussed.
They included;
Financing of Cities and Urban areas
Human resource issues within Cities and Municipalities.
The establishment of inter-city and inter-municipality forum as per the IGRA act.
Transfer of functions to the urban entities.
The CEO committed to support this tier of decentralisation.
“I met with the leadership to discuss financing, HR matters, function transfers, and the establishment of an inter-city forum under IGRA,” read the statement.
Mwiti added, “These discussions are pivotal in ensuring urban entities are adequately empowered and resourced to deliver on their mandates,”.
Present in the meeting were Nick Mbwika ( of CoG), Anne Muthusi ( Deputy Chair), Lulu ( Treasurer) and Carol( HRM, CoG).
There are 118 Municipalities and 5 cities in the Country which are established under the Intergovernmental relations act.
Soo the Forum is key to the realization of the third tier of devolution according to the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
