Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged residents of Western Kenya to take full advantage of the ongoing national identification card registration exercise, underscoring its importance in enhancing the region’s political influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the funeral service of Joseph Lumuli in Misikhu Ward, Lusaka noted that despite Western Kenya’s large population, its electoral power remains underutilized due to low rates of ID registration and voter turnout.

“Western Kenya is populous, yet our numbers are not reflected at the ballot,” Lusaka said. “We must turn out in large numbers, register for national IDs, and position ourselves to demand our rightful share of the national cake.”

He specifically appealed to the youth to seize the opportunity offered by the free registration exercise, describing it as a pivotal step in shaping the region’s destiny and influencing national policy and development priorities.

Lusaka’s remarks align with broader government efforts to streamline civil registration services and boost citizen engagement in national processes.

The current ID registration drive is expected to play a critical role in increasing voter registration and strengthening political representation in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
