Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged residents of Western Kenya to take full advantage of the ongoing national identification card registration exercise, underscoring its importance in enhancing the regionโ€™s political influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the funeral service of Joseph Lumuli in Misikhu Ward, Lusaka noted that despite Western Kenyaโ€™s large population, its electoral power remains underutilized due to low rates of ID registration and voter turnout.

โ€œWestern Kenya is populous, yet our numbers are not reflected at the ballot,โ€ Lusaka said. โ€œWe must turn out in large numbers, register for national IDs, and position ourselves to demand our rightful share of the national cake.โ€

He specifically appealed to the youth to seize the opportunity offered by the free registration exercise, describing it as a pivotal step in shaping the regionโ€™s destiny and influencing national policy and development priorities.

Lusakaโ€™s remarks align with broader government efforts to streamline civil registration services and boost citizen engagement in national processes.

The current ID registration drive is expected to play a critical role in increasing voter registration and strengthening political representation in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
