On September 8, 2024, the Shincheonji Jesus of Church in Cheongju hosted a significant gathering, attracting approximately 80,000 attendees, including members from various regions and 100 Protestant pastors.
The event marked the 30th anniversary of the Cheongju Church’s establishment and featured a visit from Chairman Man Hee Lee as part of his national tour.
Chairman Lee’s address emphasized the importance of understanding the Book of Revelation and maintaining a Bible-centered faith.
He stated, “We must have faith that is fully consistent with God’s word.” The chairman has visited over 40 churches this year, focusing on delivering teachings from the fulfillment of the Book of Revelation.
The event highlighted the growing interest in Shincheonji’s biblical interpretations. A recent survey by the Ministry Data Research Institute revealed that 65% of Korean Protestant church attendees feel “spiritually thirsty,” with 55% expressing a desire for more systematic Bible education.
On this day, Chairman Lee said, “How grateful should we be that God has revealed to us the words of Revelation that no one knew for 6000 years?” He continued, “This word is life.
We must have faith that is 100% consistent with this word, which is to become one with God.”
While mainstream Protestant churches face challenges with declining youth engagement, Shincheonji reports an increase in young adult membership.
The church also notes that over 100,000 individuals complete their 8-month educational course annually.
A Shincheonji official stated that the church’s approach to biblical education, particularly its interpretation of Revelation, is attracting individuals across various demographics.
The official emphasized the church’s commitment to providing evidence-based and systematic biblical instruction.
Mr. Lee, who has been a believer in a Presbyterian church for 30 years, confessed, “I was shocked by Chairman Lee’s lecture at the Word Great Assembly, where he coherently delivered the entire book of Revelation.”
On the other hand, Shincheonji Church of Jesus is not only seeing an increase in young believers in their 20s and 30s, but also more than 100,000 believers complete the regular 8-month course every year.
This event underscores the ongoing shifts in religious engagement and biblical education within South Korea and oversees Christian community.
