Major Works Kicks Off In Two Bungoma Informal Settlements Under KISIP2

Bungoma County government has kicked off upgrading works in two informal settlement under the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP 2)

The project include construction of roads, footpaths,installation of security lights, sewerage system and water points.

Chief Officer Housing,Urban and Municipalities CPA.Dr. Rashid Simiyu Fwamba while addressing residents in the two areas asked them to support the project for it to fully serve them.

The upgrading projects are funded by the World Bank, through the State Department of Housing and Urban Development and Bungoma County government.

He also called for quality works in the project which will last longer to serve the community.

“We are happy for the kick off these projects, the contractor is starting the work immediately to allow it get completed on the agreed time frame,” said Fwamba.

He added, “Already the contractor who was awarded the contract for installation of high mast lights to help curb insecurity in the two areas with Mjini benefiting from two while land Matope got three of them has completed ,”.

He called on the contractor to employ local workers so that they can also get employment opportunities.

“No need of ferrying employees from far, use locals to create employment, this is the only opportunity for them to get cash to help change their living standards,” he said.

Projects Coordinator Plan. Wellington Sindani called on the locals to support the project for their own benefit.

“We need such projects in the county, support this one so that after its completion the donors can decide to add us more,” he said.

He lauded the community for being supportive towards the project which he hopes it will transform the slum areas.

The project was awarded to Centreline logistics a contractor who will undertake the works.

Present were Ward administrator for Musikoma Festus Juma, Chwele/Kabuchai Kusienya, Mjini SEC chairman Saidi Juma and his Landi Matope SEC chairman Benson Wanambisi, CPCT and other members.
