Shock As Landslide Kill Four Family Members In Mt Elgon

Landslide has killed four members of the same family in Mt Elgon constituency following the heavy down pour.
The four deceased persons died at Chesiywo village, Chemondi sub location of Cheptais Sub County after landslide swept down their house.

Residents claim that the rocky area was moved downstream following a heavy rains pounding the region.

Confirming the incident, Chemondi Sub Location Assistant Chief Martin Naibei urged locals to move to higher and safer places.
“We are saddened by the passing on of the four family members, as the local leadership we have lost great members of the society, we call upon County leaders and especially the docket of disaster management to come to our rescue,” said the local administrator.
He stated that they were marooned by floods swept from the higher region where a Father and his three children were sunk in debris while his wife is receiving treatment at Bungoma County Referral Hospital.
Naibei also urged well wishers to move with speed to help the affected family and also the affected residents.
He reiterated that the heavy rain started at 8pm on Tuesday but the unfortunate incident occurred at 10pm while the surrounding families were totally asleep and were caught unaware.
Cheptais Sub-County Police Commandant Jesse Mwakiria confirmed the incident but promised to divulge more information later on.
