Governor George Natembeya to Ruto: Equip police officers and pay them well so as to end banditry attacks in Rift Valley

By Atanas Walila, Trans Nzoia

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has said that the only way to end insecurity in the North Rift region is to have all the security officers deployed to stop banditry attacks are well equipped.

Natembeya who spoke at a local TV station said that the police do not have the capability to deal with the bandits.

“To deal with this gangs you need helicopter gunships with aerial capability to dismantle them because the terrain in which they operate is very difficult for the police to navigate through,” said Natembeya.

Mr. Natembeya said the security officers should paid well, given food supplies and allowances as a way of boosting their morale so as to prevent them cooperating with the enemy.

“You buy cabbages in Molo, take them to the headquarters in Gilgil then transport them to Kapedo, by the time they land in Kapedo they are rotten, do you expect that police officer to fight bandits,” he said.

Governor Natembeya also mentioned that banditry will end only if political leaders stop funding the gangs.

He called upon the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), to stay away from security operations because they are barring the officers from performing their tasks.

“The officers know that if you kill somebody you are going to face Ipoa. The best police officer in this country is the one who does not use any fire arm,” stated former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
