Students at Eregi Teachers Training College (ETTC) are unhappy lot after they were told to look for alternative place for accommodation since they were unwanted guests at the college hostels.

The most affected students are second year students who had just reported to the college after taking a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They reported on 10 days ago but on Thursday they woke to a rude shock after the school management informed them that they were not needed at the school and that they must look for accommodation elsewhere.

“We were not prepared to come back to school due to Covid19 but we were ambushed. The Dean of Students (Susan Ligeve) and Deputy Principal Silas Chepkwon came to our hostels and took away our mattresses. We are now sleeping on metallic beds that don’t have beddings for three days now,” claimed one of the students who sought anonymity.

The student claimed that they were informed that they will be only be allowed back into the hostels if they have zero balances.

Empty beds with no mattresses

“We have students who finished their tuition fees but there mattresses were also taken away and therefore the issue of zero balances doesn’t arise. We don’t have new students (freshers) reporting to the college. This is unfair to us and management must come clean on this issue,” claimed another student.

Investigations by County Splash News has established that tonight (Saturday) the student will sleep on metallic beds that don’t have mattresses as they were taken away from them.

The students have threatened to go on a strike if the issue won’t be solved amicably in the next 24 hours.

Efforts to get to the Dean of Students for a rejoinder were futile as well as the college principal.
