Kakamega man slits grandmother’s throat as another kills wife, hangs himself

A somber mood Malekha village in Malava Sub County after a 40-year old man hacked his wife to death and later committed suicide by setting their matrimonial house a blaze on Sunday night.

Paul Shivachi, 40, is alleged to have killed his wife, Rael Shivachi, 35, at their home before setting the house on fire.

The two are said to have migrated to the area a week ago.

According to the police, neighbours noticed a huge fire coming from their house around 2am and rushed to the scene to rescue them, upon breaking into the house, they found the lifeless body of his wife in the living room while Mr. Shivachi had committed suicide by hanging himself.

Malava Deputy Sub County Police Commander, Gilbert Marie, confirmed the incident saying the charred remains of the two are being preserved at the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral hospital.

Still in Malava, another suspect Peter Manyuru, 26, killed his 84-year-old grandmother, Roselidah Ngao, following a domestic brawl on September 20, this year. He was presented in court today.

The suspect slit the throat of his grandmother at Chebaiywa village, Tande sub location in Malava Sub County.

Kakamega Resident Magistrate William Lopokoiyit Tulei has ordered that the suspect be remanded at Kabras Police Station for ten days and be presented in court on September 30 for plea taking after undergoing a mental assessment by a psychiatrist.
