At least Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) from Ilesi location in Shinyalu constituency on July 12, received relief food from a well-wisher, who is also a PWD.

The donation was from Patrick Matekwa, the chairperson Ilesi disabled self-help group, which was launched on the same day.

Each of the beneficiaries received at least 2kilos of maize flour, a tissue paper and a soap aimed at cushioning them for the bites of coronavirus disease where over 9500 people have been infected with the disease.

They also received two chicken each, which they are supposed to rear to cushion them from poverty.

Mr. Matekwa while addressing the press at Ilesi Chief Office, he said that PWDs had been hard hit by the pandemic and called for more assistance from both the county and the national government.

“Disabled people are going through a hard and that they are unable to put food on the table after the government ordered that we stay at home as a way of curbing the spread of the virus,” said Matekwa.

He decried that the money that was set aside for the vulnerable is nowhere to be seen even after they sent in their applications.

This comes a few months after the president appropriated an additional Sh10B to cushion the vulnerable during the COVID 19 pandemic that included the disabled.

Mr James Wendo Khatabasi, the PWDs Chairman in Shinyalu Sub County said the government must urgently help them.
