One person has been killed  and five others nursing life threatening injuries after tribal clashes erupted along the Kakamega – Nandi borders over a land dispute at Ikoli and Kataniin villages respectively.

Investigations by the County Splash News established that the clashes started after two families disagreed over a piece of land leading to tribal clashes.

Tension is still high in the area though security apparatus have been dispatched to the ground to contain the situation.

“Cows belonging to Mr Rono strayed into Mr.Angasi’s farm which is in Ikoli village in Kakamega County and destroyed his crops. When he complained, residents of Kataniin village crossed the boundary and a confrontation ensued,” said one of the eyewitnesses.

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute was between Patrick Angasi and Samuel Rono who resides along the common border of the disputed parcel of land.

An attempt security officers drawn from Kufasali Police Post in Kakamega County to contain the situation was fruitless, a move that forced them to call for reinforcement from Malava Police Station.

Wilson Kiprono and Moses Kwani sustained panga cuts and are at Malava Sub County hospital getting specialised treatment. Dennis Letting and Kelvin Kipchumba are admitted at Kabiyet Sub County hospital nursing head and bodily injuries.
