Journalists will be required to pay Sh2000 to get accreditation from the Media Council of Kenya to cover the state funeral of retired late President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi’s.

The affected journalists are those based in Nairobi and Nakuru who will be assigned by their media houses to cover Moi’s state funeral.

“The government has announced a state funeral for the Rt. H.E President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi who died on 4th February 2020 at Nairobi hospital. Journalists assigned to cover the state funeral will require accreditation from the Media Council of Kenya,” the statement reads in part.

In a presser released to newsrooms on Thursday by David Omwoyo, journalists covering the event will be required to get full accreditation from the council, failure to which they won’t be granted entry to the venue.

Before getting the accredited to cover the state funeral, journalists will be required to present to the council a letter from their employer, a degree or a diploma in communication/journalism as a prove that they are not quacks.

The move has elicited mixed reactions from journalists across the country with some saying the decision to demand Sh2000 from media personalities to cover the event was ill advised.
