Nambale, Busia County — The Iteso community in Nambale Constituency is set for a colourful cultural event on Saturday as their cultural king, His Royal Highness Emorimor Papa Iteso III Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, makes a special visit to Esibembe Comprehensive School.
The visit is expected to bring together Iteso leaders, elders, youth and residents in a celebration aimed at strengthening cultural identity, preserving traditions and promoting unity within the community.
Preparations for the event are complete, according to ICU Nambale Chairman Tom Muyodi and Planning Coordinator Chris Baraza Obukui, who said the community was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the cultural leader whose headquarters are in Soroti, Uganda.
Muyodi and Obukui said the visit was particularly important at a time when cultural values among young people were increasingly coming under pressure from modern lifestyles.
They said the event would provide an important platform for elders to pass on the community’s traditions, history, language and values to the younger generation.
“This is more than just a visit by our cultural leader. It is an opportunity for us to reconnect with our roots and ensure that our young people understand and appreciate their heritage,” the organisers said.
The organisers have invited several senior leaders from Kenya and neighbouring Uganda to grace the occasion, which is expected to attract a large gathering from Nambale and beyond.
Beyond cultural celebrations, the organisers said the visit would serve as a platform for strengthening unity among the Iteso and promoting peaceful coexistence among the various communities living in Nambale Constituency.
They said cultural activities should be used to build bridges rather than divisions, noting that the Iteso community had a responsibility to contribute to peace, development and integration in the region.
The event will also provide an opportunity for the community to showcase its rich cultural heritage through traditional music, dance, dress and other cultural activities.
The organisers urged residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome Emorimor and make the event a memorable celebration of Iteso identity and heritage.
