Anyone seeking an elective seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who will not have registered as party members by 31st March this year will be locked out of the party grassroots elections.
“If you are not a registered member of ODM party you won’t be allowed to vote, vie or participate in ODM elections,” said Ms Mumma
The Orange party National Election Board boss Catherine Mumma said the move has been taken to avert chaotic primaries, as it has been the case in the past.
Ms. Mumma who was addressing the media in Kakamega said after meeting regional party officials, said that they also be having ODM mass registration of their members ahead of the 2022 polls.
Ms Mumma urged all the members of ODM and those who would like to join ODM party to register and become a member before the grassroots elections.
Ms Mumma said that by registering as an ODM member, one will be able to get a chance to participate in all ODM elections for various positions and also to be among the candidates vying for various positions.
“If you are not a registered member of ODM party you won’t be allowed to vote, vie or participate in ODM elections,” said Ms Mumma
Mumma said that those who would like to vie for the presidential post according to the part structures they are should apply to the board by February 26.
“To those who will like to register as members of ODM, we welcome you people to the party. You can dial *1483*036# using your phone or send your ID number to 22732 and you will be registered or use email join.odm.co.ke or visit our website www.odmmembership.com.” Mumma said
She added that as party they want to elect people who are competent and ready to represent the party during the elections
“We are doing the registration early since we don’t want to be caught up with time when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will be calling in for the nomination of delegates,” Mumma said
She condemned those saying that the party has already elected a particular person for the presidency sit. She said that the presidency sit is empty for anyone.
