President William Ruto has formally commissioned the Soko Kubwa modern market in Bungoma County, that will cost ksh.370million,a project aimed at improving trade and strengthening the communities in the region.
Situated in Bungoma CBD,Soko kubwa market is part of the Kenya Kwanza governmentβs ambition to build more than 400 contemporary marketplaces across the country.
βCarefully planned childcare facilities are available at the market, enabling parent traders to work while their kids are kept safe and close by. In addition to designated parking spaces and effective waste management systems that preserve ordered surroundings, administrative offices, food courts, and contemporary restrooms guarantee comfortable everyday operations.βhis excellency president william Ruto said.
He further lamented that once its commenced, the market will include a restroom, an ICT center, a cold room, a food court, and areas for young moms, among other amenities. It is intended to house more than 1,000 traders, bringing vendors from neighboring counties such as Vihiga and Busia hence increasing intercounty trade.
Local traders in Bungoma County have applauded the governmentβs step, claiming that it will serve as a stepping stone for them to expand their operations both outside of the county and within it.
βWe are grateful for this project and we arge the government to continue with economic developments here at Bungoma and Kenya as a country,β said Grace Wanyama, food vendor.
