The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) has announced a 24 hour cut off in water supply following relocation of water pipelines along Express Super Highway.
The water shortage expected to occur between Thursday 6am to Friday 6pm was clearly stated in a public notice together with the areas it bounds to affect.
” The shutdown will facilitate interconnection of relocated pipeline to the old pipeline at the Eastern bypass road and Mombasa road,” read the notice.
Areas listed include Imara Daima, Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) , Mukuru, Coca cola, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Athi River Export and Processing Zone(EPZ).
The list continues with Nairobi Inland Container Depot, the General Service Unit (GSU), Industries along Masai Road as well as Administration Police Training School.
Also mentioned are estates and industries along Tassia, Embakasi Village and North Airport Road together with their adjacent areas.
This notice comes at a time when NWSC is under scrutiny following a Sh2.5 billion scandal arising from water supplied during the Covid 19 pandemic.
The water company is said to have supplied 8 million Cubic metres of water at the time of the huge financial loss.
Findings declare a recovery of sh 16 million out of the 2.5 billion valued for the water supply which were clearly stated in a report released by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu.
Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Paul Rono has on Monday warned that any illegal water connection will attract a penalty of sh 100,000.
” The government has stepped up the crackdown in 14 areas across informal settlements in Nairobi,” he added.
Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company urges for customer’s patience during the 24 hour shut down advising them to use water sparingly in the process of relocation of pipelines.
