WELL DIGGER WHO ESCAPED DEATH PLEAD FOR MEDICAL HELP

DENIS CHAGALA, KAKAMEGA

A family of a man in Lurambi constituency Kakamega County who a bucket full of sand fell on while drilling a borehole is in dire help from well-wishers and good Samaritans to enable them to cater for their kin’s hospital bill.

The heavily loaded bucket hit the head of the 32-year-old Eliund Mangula, after the rope tied to the basket got off.

“I was in the company of my friend that fateful day, while inside the hole, I was to fill the bucket with sand and later signal my partner who was on the upper side to pull it”, He said.

Little did Mangula know the rope had loosened, he filled the bucket with sand and signalled his friend on top to pull it. At the time of the accident, the duo had dug the hole more than 60 feet deep.

"Unfortunately, the rope we used to pull the bucket of sand loosened, the bucket fell and hit me on the head, its impact broke my backbone along with several other bones," He recalled.

However, his family’s efforts to take him to various hospitals for treatment have been in vain as they have since lacked money to pay for his treatment.

“We took him to Kakamega General Hospital where he was referred to Eldoret Moi teaching and referral hospital, We were required to pay 100,000 shillings before any medication was administered to him, an amount we are unable to raise”, said Eunice Mangula, wife to Eliud.

Currently, the family is asking for help from well-wishers and good Samaritans to intervene to rescue them.

“We highly depend on Eliud for our daily upkeep, we have tried to raise the stipulated amount of money by selling some of our belongings but all has been in vain. The landlord is threatening to evict us from his house for late payment of rent, I have failed to get school fees and food for my family,” added Mangula.
