Price of Unga might jump to Sh250 per 2-kilo packet of maize flour.

The price of maize flour is set to increase after a waiver on charges and fees on imported maize elapsed.
“We shall have poor harvests this season and the only way to cushion ourselves from making losses, is to pass the burden to the consumer,” said a miller who sought anonymity
The three-month waiver has been in place since July this year and effectively controlled the prices after skyrocketing to Sh225 for a 2kilo packet.
The waiver was put in place by outgoing Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
Though a gazette notice No. 7499, the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (Kephis) boss Theophilus Mutui directed his deputy directors to resume charges on maize imports effects October 1.
Millers who spoke to the County Splash said that with the resumption of the charges, they will have to increase the prices of maize flour.
