Nominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga has defected from ODM party that nominated him to the Senate and joined Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

Nominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga

“I will be vying for the Kakamega Women rep seat on DAP-K, a party for the Mulembe people. This is a party that has internal democracy and takes care for the interests of everyone,” said Ms Shiyonga

Sources close to Shiyonga hinted to the County Splash that she defected after realizing the party was hell bent to give the current Kakamega Women Representative Elsie Muhanda direct nomination.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya

Since declaring that she will be going for the Women rep seat, Ms Shiyonga and Ms Muhanda had a bitter fallout and resorted to PR stunts when in public functions together.

“I will be vying for the Kakamega Women rep seat on DAP-K, a party for the Mulembe people. This is a party that has internal democracy and takes care for the interests of everyone,” said Ms Shiyonga while on a campaign trail at Sabatia market in Butere Sub County.

“ODM may miraculously have a governor but may not get other elective seats like MCA, MP, Women Rep and Senator. The party is being runned like a kiosk and that’s why I also defected to DAP-K,” said Lazarus Lucheveleli, East Kabras ward rep.

Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, MPs Tindi Mwale (Butere), Peter Nabulindo (Matungu), Janet Nang’abo (Trans Nzoia Women rep), Ayub Savula (Lugari), Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren) and Wafula Wamunyinyi (Kanduyi) accompanied her.

The source also claimed that Kakamega Deputy Governor Prof Philip Kutima and Shinyalu MP Kizito Mugalia could be on their way out to DAP_K and the latter felt to have been shortchanged by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Oparanya brought on board Anami Lisamula to ODM, a move that angered Kizito while the entry of Fernandes Barasa who is touted to have the support of Oparanya also angered Kutima and the Kabras people.

“ODM may miraculously have a governor but may not get other elective seats like MCA, MP, Women Rep and Senator. The party is being runned like a kiosk and that’s why I also defected to DAP-K,” said Lazarus Lucheveleli, East Kabras ward rep.

He said there is no internal democracy in ODM.

Of the leaders who have defected from ANC and Ford Kenya, only two MPs Bishop Titus Khamala (Lurambi) and Aseka Miradi (Khwisero) joined ODM, the rest are in DAP-K.
