Former Kakamega Governorship aspirant Mabel Muruli has died while undergoing treatment at the Karen hospital in Nairobi after spending several days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“It’s with a heavy heart to learn of the death of Mabel Muruli. I shall cherish the many day’s we spend in Kakamega County campaigning for Jubilee party. Even as you pushed, your agenda to be considered for the gubernatorial seat you lost grace fully. Fair thee well my friend,” posted Sammy Itemere, former Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary on his facebook account.
The cause of his death is yet to be made public by his family members.
Muruli vied for the gubernatorial seat on Jubilee party ticket in the 2017 general elections but lost to Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. Other candidates were Dr Boni Khalwale of Ford Kenya and Michael Osundwa of Amani National Congress.

Mabel’s dream of becoming the first governor of Kakamega in 2013 elections was shattered by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on grounds that the Commission for University Education did not recognize her degree.
In 2017, she launched a spirited and well-oiled campaign to unseat Governor Oparanya – a move that left many tongues wagging.
