Funyula MP Wilberforce Mudenyo is in\ntrouble after opposing the proposed construction of Nangina Airstrip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents of Nangina ward are now outraged\nagainst the lawmaker for opposing development in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Mudenyo recently said that the\nplanned construction of the airstrip by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) for\nnot a priority to the locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have given the MP 24 hours to\napologise over his reckless statements. He is not development conscious and if\nhe will not heed to our demands, we shall take the next cause of action, \u201csaid\nNangina MCA John Obwogo.<\/p>\n\n\n\nNangina MCA John Obwogo.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Obwogo faulted the legislator\nfor opposing the project since its national government funded and that he\n(Mudenyo) has no right to interfere with development. Mudenyo is anti-development\nas evidenced by his poor track record,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steve Ogale, an elder, said that\npoliticians should keep off the initiative since it was going to boost the area\neconomy and create employment for youths across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airstrip was supposed to be constructed\nat Tangakona but Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said the move was abandoned\nafter unscrupulous grabbed the land for the airstrip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, KAA through Selina\nGor, the Kisumu International Airport and Western Region Airports Regional\nManager, has maintained that the land belongs to the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have received information of nine people claiming that they own the land where the 20-acre Busia Airstrip is located. We want to tell them that is government land and we have its title deed,\u201d said Ms.Gor<\/p>\n\n\n\nKisumu International Airport and Western Region Airports Regional Manager<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Gor said that a big chunk of the airstrip land had been encroached and that they were working with the National Lands Commission (NLC) to reclaim the land that has been illegally taken away in order to develop the airstrip to international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kakamega Airstrip is being rehabilitated at a cost of\nSh174.7million while Kitale airstrip is being rehabilitated at a cost of\nSh220million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
