Herbalist, initiators have greatly\ndiffered concerning the August male circumcision fete which many has proposed\nto be pushed to 2022 amid Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources reveal that some parents\nhave started circumcising boys something that elders have taken it as a curse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a press conference today July,\n16, 2020, Dr. Michael Misiko a herbalist also a Luhya elder blamed initiators\nwho are circumcising boys something which have been termed as going a against\nthe law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Its really bad to ignore the\ngovernment\u2019s directives in combating the spread of Covid-19, during this fete\nmany people meet to sing, dance and drink local brew together something that\nwas blacklisted by the ministry of health with fear of spreading Coronavirus,\u2019\u2019\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lauded the move by the government\nof Kenya in putting in place the guidelines which will help in controlling the\nspread of the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019I know that President Uhuru\nKenyatta partially opened the economy of this country it doesn\u2019t mean that he\nallowed us to carry out circumcision, please lets avoid this thing of hiding\nand being trick by money thirty initiators who don\u2019t even know our culture,\u2019\u2019\nhe warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Some initiators are after money,\nin fact they deliver poor services whenever given an opportunity condemn\nthem,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that whenever there is\ncrisis during the circumcision year the fete is always pushed a head to avoid\nlosing lives and curses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Like in 1938 there was no\ncircumcision fete that took place because there was war and many people lost\nlives traditionally its considered as a cursed year,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Misiko says circumcision is a rite\nof passage in traditional African communities and people should avoid bringing\nin their own dirty beliefs accusing those individuals who met, slaughtered a\ncow pretending to convince the community that there will be no harm to our boys\nwhen circumcised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Those who have already circumcised\ntheir boys they are against the law,\u2019\u2019 he said, adding the best circumcision\nshould be done in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Commissioners and local\nadministration have been called to arrest those who are behind breaking the\nlaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019I plead to our chiefs to work\nclosely with parents, initiators and County government to ensure that they\nenforce tight law in our communities that carry out circumcision,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, added that circumcision\nfete attracts many people from different parts who converge together sing,\ndrink local liquor \u2018\u2019Busaa\u2019\u2019 saying that it is one way of spreading Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Some of our friends and relatives\nare in areas which have been mapped to be corona virus hotspots and if we\ncontinue behaving this way then Covid-19 will wipe all of us,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I call upon County ECE for gender,\nculture and sports Mrs. Everlyne Kakai her staff, chiefs and Bungoma county\ninitiators chairman Sinino wa Omukolongolo to be on the forefront to stop\ncircumcision of our boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
