{"id":933,"date":"2020-06-27T15:43:08","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=933"},"modified":"2020-06-27T15:43:08","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:43:08","slug":"tractor-plunges-into-a-river-killing-two-people-on-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=933","title":{"rendered":"Tractor plunges into a river killing two people on board"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kakamega<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Dennis Chagala<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two people in Lurambi, Kakamega County have succumbed to\ndeath after a tractor they were boarding lost direction and plunged into a\nriver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The driver died on spot while his conductor died shortly\nafter he was rushed to Kakamega general hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three others escaped with injuries and are recuperating at\nthe hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-934\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029-696x522.jpg 696w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0029.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David Kabena, Kakamega central police commander confirmed\nthe incident urging people to be cautious while boarding a tractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A tractor is not a passenger car; anyone riding on a\ntractor should observe extra caution.&#8221; He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to eyewitnesses, the tractor was transporting\ntimber from Eshisiru to Mabanga before it lost direction and plunged into the\nriver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It was carrying five people, two have died and three\nothers have been rushed to Kakamega referral hospital,\u201d said one of the eye\nwitnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The driver was confirmed dead on the spot after the tractor\nfell on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-935\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030-696x522.jpg 696w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG-20200626-WA0030.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accident was linked to the existence of potholes on the\nbridge as well as the paved roads in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, residents called on their leaders including area\nMp and ward representative to intervene and come up with a lasting solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s not the first time we&#8217;re witnessing an accident\nin this area, after every two months an accident happens here,&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We want our leaders to look for possible solutions\nover this bridge as soon as possible, added another resident.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bridge has claimed lives of more than five people over\nthe last two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;-Ends&#8212;-<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kakamega By Dennis Chagala Two people in Lurambi, Kakamega County have succumbed to death after a tractor they were boarding lost direction and plunged into a river.
