{"id":812,"date":"2020-05-30T08:58:24","date_gmt":"2020-05-30T08:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=812"},"modified":"2020-05-30T08:58:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-30T08:58:24","slug":"magoha-rules-out-re-opening-of-schools-amidst-covid19-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=812","title":{"rendered":"Magoha rules out re-opening of schools amidst Covid19 pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nairobi <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Selipher Musungu <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Education has ruled out\nthe re-opening of schools saying the safety of students and teachers comes\nfirst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education Cabinet Secretary George\nMagoha said schools will only be opened when the coronavirus disease will have\nbeen contained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magoha noted that decisions pertaining\nopening of schools and universities cannot be made at the moment unless a\nreport probing the safety standards of institutions is out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"623\" height=\"848\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0074.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-813\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0074.jpg 623w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0074-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 623px) 100vw, 623px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKenyans should be made aware that painful\nbut necessary decisions will be made based on the data and evidence from the\nMinistry of Health from time to time. All stakeholders should be therefore\nprepared for a likely extended closure of schools given that the government\nwill never sacrifice our children at the expense of education,\u201d stated Magoha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compounding fears of the parents are\nthe surge in Covid 19 cases in the country that over the last few weeks have\nskyrocketed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018\u2019We have taken the projection by the\nMinistry of Health seriously since more than 350 schools are currently\ndesignated as quarantine and isolation centers,\u2019\u2019 Said Magoha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"649\" height=\"725\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0075.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-814\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0075.jpg 649w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG-20200529-WA0075-269x300.jpg 269w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magoha also cautioned the public on\nflouting health guidelines on social distancing stating that the more cases of\nthe virus the longer the schools will remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;He termed health of students as a priority\nthat cannot not be sacrificed at any cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged parents to monitor their\nchildren, guiding and guarding them from harm they might be exposed at home.
