Bungoma County will play host to the national celebrations of the launch of the Day of the African Child (DAC) on June 9, 2025, in an event expected to draw national attention to child welfare and education initiatives.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Services, Dr. Alfred Mutua, is set to preside over the commemorations, which will mark a significant moment in the national child rights calendar.<\/p>\n

Bungoma was selected as the host county by the National Council for Children Services (NCCS) owing to Governor Kenneth Lusaka\u2019s exemplary leadership in advancing early childhood education and strengthening child protection frameworks across the region.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a planning meeting held at the county headquarters, Governor Lusaka hailed the selection as a major endorsement of Bungoma\u2019s growing reputation as a champion for children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

The NCCS delegation, led by Director of Corporate Services Gilbert Biwott, met with county officials to begin logistical preparations for the event. The Day of the African Child is commemorated annually on June 16 to honour the memory of the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa, where schoolchildren lost their lives while demanding access to quality education.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebrations are expected to spotlight Bungoma\u2019s model programmes in early childhood development, community-based child welfare initiatives, and school enrolment drives.<\/p>\n
