{"id":6581,"date":"2025-04-10T11:04:25","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T08:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=6581"},"modified":"2025-04-10T11:04:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T08:04:25","slug":"court-upholds-suspension-of-national-biosafety-authority-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=6581","title":{"rendered":"Court Upholds Suspension Of National Biosafety Authority CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The suspended National Biosafety Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Roy Mugiira has a suffered a blow.<\/p>\n<p>This is after Employment and Labour Relations Court declined his request to stop disciplinary proceeding against him.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Stella Rutto sitting in Nairobi dismissed an application for injunction against the Board of Directors of the National Biosafety Authority filed by Dr. Mugiira.<\/p>\n<p>The decision by Justice Rutto now paves way for disciplinary proceedings against Dr. Mugiira to continue for allegations of financial impropriety.<\/p>\n<p>The suspended chief executive officer has been in Court since last year in an effort to reclaim his position at the Authority.<\/p>\n<p>Last year in December, the Court declined request by Dr. Mugira to resume his duties noting that the orders issues had not lifted his suspension.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6580\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6580\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6580\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG-20250410-WA0013-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG-20250410-WA0013-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG-20250410-WA0013-696x928.jpg 696w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG-20250410-WA0013.jpg 765w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6580\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suspended NBA CEO Mr.Mugiira<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mugiira was suspended from office by the board in July 2024 over allegations of misappropriation of funds and interference with the constitution of the Authority\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>The disciplinary process against Dr. Mugiira began on June 6, 2024 when the board requested an explanation for several instances of financial impropriety at the Authority.<\/p>\n<p>He is alleged to have tempered with the investigation into claims of misappropriation of the funds by the board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The suspended National Biosafety Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Roy Mugiira has a suffered a blow.
