{"id":613,"date":"2020-04-20T17:51:22","date_gmt":"2020-04-20T17:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=613"},"modified":"2020-04-20T17:51:22","modified_gmt":"2020-04-20T17:51:22","slug":"party-over-for-wangamati-wetangula-as-ford-kenya-mulls-over-giving-lusaka-2022-governorship-ticket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=613","title":{"rendered":"Party over for Wangamati, Wetang\u2019ula as Ford Kenya mulls over giving Lusaka 2022 governorship ticket"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bungoma <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Tony Wafula <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wycliffe Wangamati was\ndeclared the second Governor of Bungoma by riding on Ford Kenya Party Leader Senator\nMoses Wetang\u2019ula using his political connections in the county. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wangamati despite having\nfinancial muscles, he was a political greenhorn and there was no way he was\ngoing to defeat Ken Lusaka who by that time was enjoying support from\nStatehouse machineries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/file6yp4ik6bcxt1imrzu1kg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/file6yp4ik6bcxt1imrzu1kg.jpg 800w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/file6yp4ik6bcxt1imrzu1kg-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/file6yp4ik6bcxt1imrzu1kg-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/file6yp4ik6bcxt1imrzu1kg-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetang&#8217;ula and Governor Wycliffe Wangamati<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what made him win was\nthe Wheelbarrow saga that put Lusaka in a tight rope of working around the\nclock to retain his seat since Ford Kenya and its propaganda network led by\nWetang\u2019ula himself worked against his re-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that time, the county\npurchased nine wheelbarrows at a cost of at least Sh1million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wangamati won the\ngovernorship race by 197,422 votes (48 per cent) against Lusaka\u2019s 175,929\nvotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And going by the current happenings,\nWangamati now nicknamed <em>\u2018Governor Wamitungi\u2019<\/em>\nis likely to be a one term governor depending on how he will control the damage\nthreatening to end his political career where it\u2019s alleged the county purchased\n600 20 litre jericans at a cost of Sh10, 000 each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn Bungoma, you don\u2019t lose\nan election because you are a bad leader but due to propaganda. Any slight\nmistake will take you home. Lusaka lost in the last elections not because he\nwas a bad leader but the wheelbarrow saga,\u201d said Prof Nyukuri Barasa, a\nGovernance expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lusaka\u2019s wheelbarrow saga\nhappened three years into his leadership as the first Bungoma Governor same to\nWangamati, the jericans saga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/index-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-615\"\/><figcaption><em><strong>Lusaka and Wangamati<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigations by the County\nSplash Team discovered that the emergency\nstate funds set aside to help in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic were\nsquandered by senior county officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medics confided to this writer that the county only sensitized\nthe public against Covid19 but the medics haven\u2019t received any training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u2018\u2019We have a &nbsp;suspected Covid19 victim last at Webuye &nbsp;County hospital and has been in&nbsp; quarantine for two weeks now but he is not\nbeing attended to. Wetang\u2019ula came when he was addressing the media and after\nthe presser, he left in a huff leaving behind his deputy, Prof Charles Ngome to\nhandle his party boss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"959\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jerry-can.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jerry-can.jpg 640w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jerry-can-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wetang\u2019ula and MPs Mwambu\nMabonga (Bumula), Didmas Barasa (Kimilili), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Catherine\nWambilianga (Women Rep) and a host of MCAs were unhappy with the Governor for\nwalking away when he knew his party leader was around.They lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ford Kenya party officials are\nalso not happy that Wangamati declined to nominate the likes of Wafula Wakoli\nto his Cabinet despite having campaigned for him fiercly over flimsy grounds\nthat he will outsmart him. Wangamati gave plum jobs to his political cronies\nand left out Wetang\u2019ula\u2019s wish list.
