<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herbalists have called upon the Bukusu community from\nboth Bungoma and Trans-Nzioa counties to push the circumcision ceremony slated\nfor August this year to 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move is to avert the spread of the coronavirus\ndisease that has so far claimed the lives of 11 people and 235 others testing\npositive going by the latest updates by President Uhuru Kenyatta on thusday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the press in his Bungoma &nbsp;town in his office Isaac Misiko who is the\nMinister for Health in the Inzu ya Masaba said that depending on the faster\nrate of the spread of the covid-19 virus the fete cannot take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure that the government has given tough\nrules that no crowding I urge the celebration to be carried forward to 2022,\u201d\nsaid Dr Misiko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misiko called upon the county government of Bungoma to\nset up a scanning clinic to ensure that circumcisers are scanned and their\nhealth status noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His sentiments were echoed by Joseph Simino, alias,Simino wa Omukolongolo the chairperson of circumcisers in Bungoma county who said that the celebration will not take place if corona virus pandemic persists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018\u2019If this pandemic persists we will be expected to\ncircumcise our initiates in the month of December to prevent the spread of every\ncircumciser is scanned and given a health letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018\u2019The county ministry of health to establish scanning\nclinics in villages to give opportunity to initiates and circumcisers to be\ntested on their covid-19 health status.\u2019\u2019 He lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" 678px) 100vw, 678px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said that in the year 1926 and 1938 there were no\ncircumcision ceremony because of the diseases that was hitting the nation which\nforced them to be circumcised during &nbsp;the bad year \u2018sikumenya\u2019.\u2019\u2019 He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the sukumenya year is the year to carry\nout rituals to the dead and it\u2019s not good to circumcise initiates saying that\nthey follow cyclical system ( Bibingilo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said that the circumcision ceremony follows the\neight age-groups: Bakolongolo, Bakikwameti, Bakananachi, Bakinyikiwi, Banyange,\nBamaina,Bachuma and Basawa which last for 10 years apart from Bachuma which\nlasted for 14 years(from 1872-1886).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged Bungoma county Gender, Youth and Culture CEC\nEverlyne Kakai to organize a meeting with all circumcisers from Bungoma to have\nproper way forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"288\" height=\"401\"
