Children under 10 years in Bungoma County are set for the second round polio vaccination from November 9 to 13.<\/p>\n

In the first round over 769,000 Children had been targeted for vaccination in the County but only 620, 837 were vaccinated representing 81 percent.<\/p>\n

Addressing the Press after the stakeholders training, County Director of Health Dr.Caleb Watta confirmed that they set to start the second vaccination exercise to help in eradicating the disease in the World.<\/p>\n

The first vaccination exercise kicked of on October 2 and ended on October 6.<\/p>\n

“Bungoma has been identified as one of the hotspots because of the porous borders where Polio is likely to occur and as a department we are set to vaccinate our Children to ensure they don’t suffer from paralysis of the lower limbs,” he said.<\/p>\n

The vaccination which targets 9 Counties was necessitted by the fact that four cases of Polio were confirmed at Kakuma refugee camp in Turkana in June while one was confirmed in Nairobi through an environmental surveillance.<\/p>\n

One case was also confirmed in Mbale in Uganda which borders Bungoma County in Western Kenya.<\/p>\n

Dr. Watta called on residents to avail their children during the period so that they are vaccinated against polio.<\/p>\n

“Polio is a dangerous disease and as a county we have prepared out teams very well in readiness for the second round of the vaccination exercise,” he said.<\/p>\n

Health promotion coordinator Perita Barasa called on residents with the children below 10 years to corporate with healthcare workers and allow them to vaccinate their children.<\/p>\n

She dismissed the myths about the family planning theory asking residents to avail their children for the vaccination exercise<\/p>\n

Counties targeted include Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, Bungoma, Busia, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Turkana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
