The money will be used in fighting the coronavirus\npandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MCAs led by the Deputy Speaker and Mugai-Shirugu Ward\nrep Leonard Soita Kasaya announced that the MCAs both from the majority and\nfrom minority side of the house agreed to take a 10 per cent pay cut for the\nnext three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Deputy Speaker accompanied by Majority Leader Joel\nOngoro told the media today at the Assembly premises that the total deductions\nwill be at least Sh1.5million per month totaling to Sh4.5million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/84333711_3208641949150310_8379586734727364608_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/84333711_3208641949150310_8379586734727364608_n.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/84333711_3208641949150310_8379586734727364608_n-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/84333711_3208641949150310_8379586734727364608_n-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/84333711_3208641949150310_8379586734727364608_n-696x696.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>Kakamega County Assembly in session<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cFollowing the spread\nof Covid19 in Kenya, the National and County Governments have been forced to\ntake drastic measures such as imposing a dusk to dawn curfew and the closure of\nopen air markets will also negatively affect the economy,\u201d said Kasaya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kasaya said with the current economic situation in the country,\nleaders are supposed to marshal resources and use it to cushion the electorate\nfrom suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cThat in sharing the\nburden occasioned by the global health pandemic and to heed to President Uhuru\nKenyatta\u2019s call for other leaders to make voluntary deductions in their salaries,\nwe have resolved that we shall be taking a 10 per cent pay cut for the next\nthree months,\u201d read Kasaya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG-20200328-WA0043-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG-20200328-WA0043-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG-20200328-WA0043-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG-20200328-WA0043-696x928.jpg 696w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG-20200328-WA0043.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Ongoro, the Majority Leader, confirmed that the MCAs would\nbe taking a 10 per cent pay cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governors and their deputies have also agreed\nto take a 30 per cent pay cut of their gross salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Council of Governors Chairman Wycliffe\nOparanya said County Executive Committee Members would also take a 20 per cent\npay cut.
