She was buried today -Photo\/Wilson Abiri\/County Splash<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People wept and those who were overcame\nby grief were assisted by volunteers from the Kenya Red Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funeral service was attended by\nSports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala,\nIkolomani MP Bernard Shinali, nominated senator Naomi Shiyonga, Kakamega\nAssembly minority leader David Ndakwa, Kakamega County ANC chairman Julius\nArunga and Emanuel Buchichi, ANC youth leader for Kakamega county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nailah met her untimely death on Monday\nevening while trying to save her younger brother, Takirr Kiverenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC_7399-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-321\"\/><figcaption><strong><em>Nominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga (left), Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala (centre) and Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed at the funeral service of Nailah Kiverenge -Photo\/Wilson Abiri\/County Splash<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ibrahim Kiberenge, the deceased father,\ntold the mourners that his daughter was hardworking and wanted to become a\ndoctor in the military when she grows up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cI\nwant to pass my exams and later study Medicine so that later in life I would be\na medic in the Kenya Defense Forces. \u201csaid Kiverenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC_7309-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-322\"\/><figcaption><em><strong>Nominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga addressing the media at Kakamega Primary School when she came to condole with the families of the 14 pupils who died following a stampede-Photo\/Wilson Abiri\/County Splash<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kiverenge said he last spoke to Nailah\non Sunday evening and that in the morning, they just left for school around\n6.20am since he was still asleep, saying it was not normal for them to go to\nschool without waking them up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"639\" height=\"827\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200213-WA0017-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200213-WA0017-1.jpg 639w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200213-WA0017-1-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cI\nwaited for my children to reach home that evening but around 5.30pm, I received\ninformation that there has been an accident at Kakamega primary, forcing me to\nrush to the school to check on my children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cwhen I reached at the school, the\nfirst thing I saw was one of her shoe and books scattered all over the staircase.\nAt this point, I panicked since I had not traced them. As a mother who understand the pain we endure\nwhen giving birth, it\u2019s a painful experience losing your first born child at\nsuch a tender age,\u201d said Amina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC_7470-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-324\"\/><figcaption><strong><em>Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala (right) condoling with Ibrahim Kiverenge over the loss of his daughter,Nailah Kiverenge -Photo\/Wilson Abiri\/County Splash<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senator Malala said he will employ\nKiverenge at his office as a way of giving solace to him, his longtime friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nominated senator Naomi Shiyonga said\nlosing 14 young souls is a tragedy saying the government should carry out an\naudit to ascertain whether the classes children across the country learn from\nare safe as a way of averting a similar tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shiyonga also said classes should have\nemergency doors for easy evacuation of pupils in case of an emergency, saying\nthe three storey building at Kakamega primary doesn\u2019t have emergency exits. His\nsentiments were echoed by Mr Shinali, Ikolomani MP who said the contractor did\na shoddy work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC_7424-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-325\"\/><figcaption><em><strong>Ibrahim Kiverenge eulogizing his daughter<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Kenya union of post\nprimary Education Teachers (KUPPET) officials also visited Kakamega Primary\nSchool in the morning to condole with the affected families and promised a\ndonation of half a million that will cater for the burial expenses of the 14\npupils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuppet Secretary General, Akello Misori\nasked Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to organise for a national conference\non safety and security of learners in schools within fourteen days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe cannot afford to postpone these\ndebate any longer. I have already written a letter to Magoha over the same\ngiving him limited time to constitute a national conference on safety and\nsecurity in our institutions. We want to come up with new guidelines aimed at enhancing\nsafety of our children when in school,\u201d said Misori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Omboko Milemba, Kuppet chairman said\nthe conference will come up with long lasting solutions to avert similar disasters,\nsaying the 2008 manual on safety and security of learners in school was\noutdated and that it needed a review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Kakamega Primary School has given\nout the names of the 14 pupils who died in the stampede on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC_7247-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-326\"\/><figcaption><em><strong>Kuppet chairman Omboko Milemba (centre) flanked by his SG Akello Misori and other union officials addressing the media at Kakamega primary school.
