The Orange Democratic Movement party has distanced itself from the purported party elections that took place in Kakamega+ where Governor Fernandes Barasa was declared the new party chairman.<\/p>\n

ODM has maintained that no elections took place and that the said elections were null and void.<\/p>\n

The party’s National Election Board (NEB) Chairperson Catherine Mumma said any election must follow due process of the law<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the party organ mandated to carryout elections within the party including the election of party officials, we wish to remind our party members, supporters and the public in general that no election or replacement of officials will take place without the express approval of the NEB as provided by the law,” said Mumma<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The chairperson also reminded party members and the public that ODM’s National delegate\u2019s convention had on 26 Feb 2022 resolved to defer grassroots elections to a later date this year.<\/p>\n

She said that the officials arrived at through the harmonization process are validly in office until the elections are held.<\/p>\n

Mumma further cautioned party officials who wished to resign or relinquish their positions to follow the laid down procedure by formally writing to NEB.<\/p>\n

” Should any party official wish to resign or relinquish their positions, they are advised to follow the laid down procedure by formally writing to NEB who will then, pursuant to the Party’s election and nominations\u00a0 rule advice on how the positions should be filled,” she said.<\/p>\n

The ODM chairperson concluded by urging the party members to conduct within the confines of the law and any issues arising should be addressed to NEB who will provide necessary solutions.<\/p>\n
