– He beat Laikipia Governor\u2019s wife- Ms Mbeneka to clinch the much coveted seat<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n – Havi also beat Ms Chiggai, outgoing LSK President <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n – Havi was disqualified in 2017 from vying for the seat by LSK<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The new President of\nthe Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nelson Havi has pledged to unite all the lawyers\nunder the association for posterity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr Havi said his main\nmandate is to ensure LSK members work together for the betterment of the\nassociation as well as defending the independence of the judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The renowned city\nlawyer beat three top compatriots in the fiercely contested election to become\nthe new Sheriff in town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr Havi, an alma\nmater of Musingu Boys High School, wants to revamp that lost glory of the\nassociation that was being viewed as toothless by the members of the public and\nthe lawyers themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He promised to walk\nin the footsteps of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and Paul Muite when they\nwere heading the lawyer\u2019s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Havi will be\nreplacing outgoing president Allen Gichuhi and serve a three-year term from\n2020 to 2022 as per the LSK regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Havi who is described\nas a radical lawyer among his fellow learned friends, beat his classmate and\ncity lawyer Charles Kanjama, Maria Mbeneka who doubles up as the wife of\nLaikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and outgoing LSK Vice President Harriete\nChiggai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A total of 10,764\nlawyers who have valid practicing licenses were eligible to take part in the\nelections that was conducted by the by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries\nCommission (IEBC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n In December 2017, Mr\nHavi was disqualified from vying for the presidency of the association since he\nhad not attained 15 years of practice from his date of admission to the bar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ms Chiggai\ncongratulated Mr Havi for the landslide victory through his facebook account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am pleased to take\nthis opportunity to congratulate the President elect, Nelson Havi, for the\nresounding victory. I trust that his hard work and his commitment to principle\nwill continue to contribute to the good of our Society. Now more than ever we\nmust support him in the course of duty,\u201d wrote Chiggai. Mr Kanjama through\nhis twitter account conceded defeat saying he will work with the new LSK\nPresident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI congratulate my classmate Nelson Havi on running a bold and effective campaign that has captured the confidence of lawyers across the country. I congratulate him on a race well run and, as a democrat, am happy to accept the will of the voters,\u201d. wrote Kanjama on his twitter account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also to congratulate Mr Havi is Senator\nKipchumba Murkomen who is also a member of the lawyers\u2019 umbrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI congratulate Ndugu Nelson Havi on\nyour election as President of the Law Society of of Kenya.
