Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang\u2019i was has been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).<\/p>\n

The DCI grilled Matiang\u2019i for over seven hours. The charge sheet was drawn by Chief Inspector Maurice Shiraho.<\/p>\n

Mr Matiang\u2019i had been summoned to appear before the DCI headquarters to be grilled on the reported raid on his home in Karen, Nairobi on February 8, this year.<\/p>\n

His first charge was on the allegation of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony contrary to Section 317 of the Penal Code.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat you Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i between February 8 \u2013 9, 2023 at Karen Ngong View Estate within Nairobi County in the Republic of Kenya with intent to cause panic, chaos or violence among citizens of the Republic of Kenya,\u201d the charge sheet read in part.<\/p>\n

It continued: \u201cThat you published in the media that your house had been raided by a battalion and or Garrison of police officers intending to arrest you a fact you knew to be false,”<\/p>\n

Matiang’i was also accused of publication of False Information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018, stated: \u201cThat you published in the media that your house had been raided by \u2018battalion\u2019 and or \u2018garrison\u2019 of police officers intending to arrest you, a fact you knew to be false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matiangi was accompanied by his legal team led by Senior Council Danstan Omari, Stephen Mogaka, the MP of West Mugirango Constituency and Rarieda\u2019s Otiende Amollo.<\/p>\n

Mr Matiang’i’s legal team reminded the investigators that there is an anticipatory bail in court restraining their client’s arrest.<\/p>\n

Mogaka pointed that investigators are planning of violate court order and arresting the CS.<\/p>\n

Matiang’i was freed this evening as the DCI stated that they will notify him in case they need him.<\/p>\n
